Birthday [Midorima Shintaro x Reader]

It's during class that you decide to ask him, and tear a piece of notebook paper from your notebook and write on it, before quickly throwing it at him. You stifle a laugh as it hits his head, and he looks around. You wave when he looks at you, and you point at the crumpled paper.

'I like Midorima. Help me? c: '

He writes before he throws it back. 'Sure! How!?'

You smile and begin to write back.


At lunch you meet up with him, the boy known as Takao. Or rather, your very slightly older cousin Takao.

"Sorry Shin-chan, but I'm going to be busy, okay?"

"Idiot go ahead, I don't care." Midorima scowls and walks away.

Takao grins as he walks over to you, "So, when do we start?"

"Well I was thinking, we could finish planning it, and start today, but really do it tomorrow."

"Ah, yeah that makes sense! His birthday is tomorrow after all."

"So let's meet after school and start buying the stuff, okay?"

He nods fervently, and you two go over tomorrow's plans again.



Midorima was sleeping peacefully, enjoying his rest after a long, tiring day. Especially after staying late to practice, it was much needed.

Bzzzt! Bzzzzzt! Bzzzzt!

His eyes snap open, and he furrows his brows as he reaches for his glasses. 'What the heck, nanodayo!?' He angrily thinks as he reaches for his phone. It stops vibrating as he answers, thinking that this MUST be important.

"Hello?"

"Shin-chan! Happy birthday!" He hears laughter before Takao hangs up. Stupid idiot- what the heck is wrong with him!? His phone vibrates more and he scowls as he sees his phone fill with text messages.

Happy Birthday Shin-chan!! xD

HBDAY SHIN-CHAN!

Midorima growled, he was woken up for this!?? He started texting back, but was pissed off more when more messages kept coming.


'To: Takao
Sent: 12:03 am
Let me sleep, you idiot!

To: Takao

Go die!!

Sent: 12:03 am
Leave me alone!

To: Takao
Sent: 12:04 am
Takaaaoooo!!!'



The next day when you wake up, you can't help but squeal into your pillow- today was the day! You check your phone, seeing you have messages.


'From: Takao
Sent: 12:08 am
Hahaha [Name]-chan I did what you said and I called and texted Shin-chan!'


You smile, but cringe, what if he went overboard..? When you gave him the idea, or rather reminded him, it wasn't that intentional. You just brought up to him about the thing you did for your friends and family. Texting and calling them at 12am right when their birthday starts.

You know Midorima gets annoyed easily, especially by Takao's antics, so you can only sigh, thinking that Takao definately must have gone to the extremes with it. Regardless, You pull off your covers and start getting ready for school, being sure to grab everything you would need for today's events.



"Good moooorning Shin-chan! Happy birthday again! Did you get my messages?" Takao tries, and fails horribly, not to burst out laughing. He knew for a fact that Midorima got his messages at midnight. Judging from his current angry face and those not-so-nice text messages he got back, it only added to the fact that Midorima not only got the messages, but was awoken by them, and highly infuriated by them as well.

Midorima opened his mouth to speak- "By the way, Shin-chan, here!" He threw him a fruit juice pouch. "I'm sure you know, but it's your lucky item for today! It's not from me, it's from a friend! And they say happy birthday!"

Midorima huffs, but was happy to get his lucky item as a gift. "Who? But it's not like I care, I didn't ask them to do this.."

Takao sniggers, "Not telling. And here's my gift, by the way!" He hands the gift over and they start heading to school, with Takao pedaling the rickshaw.



Cancers are ranked number one today, so that's good. Maybe that means my confession to him will go well and he'll accept my feelings..? You sigh, resting your head on your desk, thankful that it was so cold.

You know Takao gave him the fruit juice, he had texted you to confirm it earlier. Your heart raced when you thought of his reaction, what would it be..? You knew it'd probably involve him being in denial about being grateful, he was a tsundere, after all, as Takao often reminded you. But still, you found it rather... cute.

And endearing! You sighed deeper into your desk, waiting to hear from Takao again. He said they would be in class soon.. You checked the time, it had been three minutes since he sent that, you needed to calm down, they probably hadn't even entered the school yet. Suddenly the classroom door opens and you hear familiar voices.

"[Naaaaaaame]-chan!" Takao! You blush as you see Midorima behind him, fruit juice in hand. He accepted it, at least-! You bit the inside of your cheek, that doesn't mean he likes you back, he didn't even know it was from you!

The first step had been for Takao to give him the lucky item of the day- yesterday you had sorta gotten a hold of the people of Oha Asa and begged them to tell you what the item would be, but that didn't matter- anything for Midorima!

Takao walked over to you. "I see he has it, but hasn't drunken it yet..??"

He shakes his head. "Nope. Don't feel bad about it, he just always carries it with him all day, you know? He'll drink it tonight though, before he goes to sleep or something."

You nod, finding it reasonable enough. You can't help but chew on your lip as you listen more about Midorima's reaction to the juice.

"Yeah, he did ask though, so don't forget to mention it when you confess!"

You blush, "I-I know!"

"Well I just wanted to remind you, it was MY money, after all!"

You laugh, "Yeah, I know, look, neither of us want your money to go to waste, so don't worry, I'll remember!"

You continue talking with your cousin, so absorbed in your conversation that you don't realize Midorima is practically seething in his seat. First Takao woke him up like that at midnight, and now he's talking to the girl he likes!? Unbelievable! He can't help but feel more upset at the fact that yeah, he IS too 'tsundere,' as Takao puts it, to talk to you himself, or stop you two from conversing.

He scowls more as he hears your beautiful laughter. Laughter HE wants to create from you. He's only able to calm down a bit when he thinks about planning to hit Takao on the face with a basketball later in practice. He WAS ranked number one today, and his shots NEVER miss... He smiles evilly.


Soon the bell rings, and Takao leaves to his seat next to Midorima.

Midorima huffs in victory, finally he isn't with [Name]-

He notices a crumpled paper land on Takao's desk, and turns around. His face falls when he sees the two waving at each other, realizing they're now passing notes. And Takao is extremely good at not getting caught, so this was bound to last at least all of class...


Throughout class you pass notes with Takao about the plan, and betting on what Shintaro's reaction would be.

Soon lunch comes around, and you go over to Takao's desk, but before you can say anything, Midorima asks Takao to go with him to the cafeteria, and they leave. You frown and pass his desk as if you weren't about to talk to him, not wanting to be embarrassed. Instead you continue and leave the classroom, going to the bathroom for a bit. Before you return, you go to Midorima's locker and slip the orange envelope inside. The envelope held words of admiration, and asked to meet outside the locker rooms after he is done practicing, even if he stays late to practice like he usually does.

After lunch you continue to pass notes with Takao, talking to him about what you didn't get the chance to tell him at lunch.

'So where'd you and Shintaro go?'

'Cafeteria, and his locker. Did you deliver the envelope??? '

'Yeah I did, it wasn't in there???? I put it in at the end of lunch.'

'Ohhh we went before we went to the cafeteria, don't worry I'll make sure he gets it before we go to practice.'

'Awesome, thanks Takao-kun! c: '

'Of course, anything for my dear, precious younger cousin! And because I want you and Shin-chan to be together! xD'

You blush, looking up and seeing him give you a big grin and a thumbs up. You pout, but can't stop blushing, darn Takao! But still, it was nice to know you had support from your favorite cousin!


It was now after school, and Takao had given you a thumbs up before he left to practice with Midorima. You take a deep breath and walk home. You don't live that far from the school, and when you get there, you still have over an hour to get back to school to continue with your plan.

So you begin to bake.


Nearly an hour later you're finishing the frosting, and finishing touches.

'Happy Birthday Midorima-kun!' Is in green, and joins some orange carrots made of icing, in decorating the white frosting of this triple-layered carrot cake you made. You smile at your hard work, proud to see it paid off so well. You were glad your grandmother was so adamant on teaching you and Takao to bake, too.

You place it in a white box that had a clear plastic part on the top for viewing the cake, and wrapped it with a green and orange striped ribbon.

You then started washing up, making yourself look a bit more than presentable. You wanted to look nice when you confessed... Takao said it would help with your confidence, and you believed him. If you looked nice, you're sure you'd feel better than looking like a mess... it wasn't that hard to see his logic.


Soon you're locking the door and then heading back to school, balancing the cake against yourself as you text Takao, who just got out of practice.

Practice ended early, Shin-chan and I are staying later, but maybe just half an hour.'


You can't help but sigh in relief, you can take your time to get there, and still have time to prepare yourself mentally before you confess!

You can't help but blush, just imagining his teasing voice in your head as you read that.


Soon almost an hour has passed, and you're pumped, ready to confess. You shuffle excitedly of your feet outside the boy's locker rooms. You get a text.

Shin-chan is on his way out now!! Good luck!!! <3<3 (d U w U ) b'


Ecstatic, you can't help but laugh at the last emoji, with thumbs up.

"[Name]? What are you doing here, nanodayo?"

You shove your phone away. Okay, here it is! The moment you've been waiting for- don't mess up! Don't mess up-!

"Midorima-kun, Happy birthday! I see you got my gift." You try not to grin like a maniac, seeing him with it all day made you want to jump on him and hug him! But that would ruin your surprise and embarrass you.

His eyes widen, "It was from you?"

You nod, and swallow the lump that forms in your throat before you speak. "Yeah, do you like it?"

"It was my lucky item today, so of course. ...But more so because it's from you.." he mumbles the last part, and looks away.

You try not to blush, "What?" You heard him clearly, but wanted to hear him say it again.

"N-nothing, nanodayo!" You giggle, finding his tsundereness endearing and adorable. You look at your cake, suddenly remembering about it.

"Here, I um, made you a cake, Takao-kun said this was your favorite flavor so.." You trail off, handing him the cake.

"Thank you, it is... A-ah I mean, its nice but its not like you had to bake me a cake! I didn't- I didn't ask you to! N-nanodayo!" He blushes and shoves his glasses on his face, and you stifled a laugh, finding his actions very endearing. It was something you came to love and admire, finding it very cute. It was something that on multiple occasions you would find yourself reassuring Takao about.

"W-wait, Takao!?"

You tilt your head to the side, "Takao-kun? What about him?"

"I-I thought you liked him-! That that's why you were talking and passing notes with him!"

You blush a bit, "Midorima-kun... Takao is my cousin." You see his face turn red, clearly shocked.

You shook your head, you need to confess already!

"Midorima-kun, I really like you, everything about you! From your top grades to your devotion to Oha Asa, your 'nanodayo's and your tsundere side! How you play basketball, and even look like a carrot!" You see him stiffen and blush more. "And I really like you, please accept my feelings and go out with me!" You finish with a bow.

You peek up and notice him blush as he tries to hide it by fixing his glasses.

"H-hai.. I... i-idiot, nanodayo.." Is all he can say, his tsundere side getting the best of him.

You grin at him, and his blush intensifies, "So... we're together now?"

"O-of course, nanodayo!" You really want to tease him a bit at this point, but figure he might just pass out, his face being red enough already.


Neither of you notice Takao, hiding in a tree near you two. "Awh they're so cute! I'm so happy they're finally together!" It takes him a second to realize he said that out loud, and a bit loudly...

"Did you hear that, nanodayo!? It sounded like Takao!"

"H-huh? No, I didn't hear anything!" You lied, covering for your cousin.



Later the two of you are walking home together, hand in hand.

"Thanks for walking me home, Midorima-kun!"

"I-it's not like I want to! But it'd be dangerous to let you walk home alone this late! Nanodayo!"

"It's okay, you just want me to be safe, right?" You ask a bit slyly.

"Y-yeah, exactly!"

You smile, waiting a bit for it to sink in.

"W-wait! I-I don't care! It's just- you wouldn't be safe!"

You laugh, a relationship with Midorima-kun, it might prove difficult at times, but you loved him, and knew things would work between the two of you.
